    Wees assumes command of AEDC 704th Test Group

    The mission of the 704 TG, which is a unit of the Arnold Engineering Development Complex headquartered at Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee, is to operate world-class test facilities for high-speed sled track testing, navigation and guidance system testing, radar signature measurements, weapon systems flight testing and to act as Air Force liaison for all Air Force programs tested at White Sands Missile Range, also located in New Mexico.
  • The rocket motor for the Apollo Service Module is installed for testing in J-3 at Arnold Air Force Base in 1966. The motor was repeatedly test fired in near space conditions to help NASA qualify the system as man-rated for the flight to the moon.     Test cell that helped put man on moon completed 60 years ago

    Throughout the 1960s, approximately 55,000 hours of testing were conducted in more than two dozen of the then-40 AEDC test facilities in support of the Apollo program. This included more than 3,300 hours of wind tunnel tests and more than 1,700 rocket firings conducted and performed from 1960 to 1968.

    World-unique tire testing capability saves millions for warfighters

    At the Air Force Test Center’s Landing Gear Test Facility located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, engineers have developed a new, one-of-a-kind test capability that can identify, characterize and classify tire wear under realistic operational conditions—saving thousands per tire over the life cycle.
