Overview

The Air Force Test Center Data Hackathon is a quarterly design and coding sprint to provide solutions to the data problems the Test Enterprise faces daily. The AFTC Data Hackathon is the premier venue where data problems and the talent necessary to solve those problems meet. Data is a strategic asset. If we are to accelerate change, we must modernize our current business processes and our workforce.

WHAT WE OFFER UNITS:

What we offer units:

  1. Engagement with unit problem owners to understand their current business processes and coach the scoping of that process into a data problem statement for the one-week event
  2. Participation in the hacker event to solve the problem by building a minimum viable product (MVP)
  3. Quarterly opportunity for units to crowd-source exquisite solutions to impact their test planning, execution, and post-event data analysis and reporting

What we offer event participants:

  1. Judgment-free environment to learn design thinking, data fundamentals, or sharpen existing data skills
  2. Opportunity to solve interesting problems with real mission impact
  3. Hands-on training in performing data science and data engineering, leading high-performance data-centric teams, and leading digital transformation within a unit

VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

The intention of this event is to grow our capability to transform a mission problem into a data solution- these positions are an important and valuable opportunity to develop the competence to make that happen organically. If you have an interest in any of these positions, they are available to anyone at any rank or grade, and previous experience is not mandatory.

Lead Software Officer: This individual will guarantee the mission impact of the event and be responsible for guiding solutions from MVP created during the event to operationalization (IOC) and beyond.

Event Site Lead: General Project Officer skillset. Manages operations and support (logistics) for their Wing’s site. (One per site)

Solution Development Support: Data science team leadership skillset. These individuals work alongside hackers during the event and guide them through the process of working collaboratively in a team of developers. The Solution Development Support position contributes to the “flavor” of all solutions during the event. (One per site)

Mission/Data Solution Integration Lead: Data officers in-training. These volunteers will gain experience leading problem owners in the translation of a mission problem into a data problem. They will gain a breadth of understanding in the field of data science and engineering sufficient to help others scope problems or extrapolation solutions from the current state of possible.
