Missionized tire wear testing helping tire designers fail fast to move forward
Concrete tiles are installed in the 168-inch internal drum dynamometer at the Landing Gear Test Facility, or LGTF, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, to simulate a specific runway in order to conduct Missionized Tire Wear Testing. The concrete tiles are created by taking molds of a runway then casting the tiles. The dynamometer operates at speeds up to 350 mph, with loads of up to 150,000 pounds, plus or minus 20 degrees of yaw, plus or minus 10 degrees of camber and can provide variable levels of brake torque.
