About the Role:

The 96 AMXS, Eglin AFB, MXARS, is currently seeking to fill one Aircraft Engine Mechanic, WG-8602-10 position.  This is a full-time position with an hourly pay range of: $33.07– $38.66 (includes locality rate).

The purpose of this position is to troubleshoot, repair, modify, and make final adjustments to one or more types of models of malfunctioning conventional and/or modified aircraft engines in test cells or while on the aircraft.

Location: Eglin AFB, FL

Typical 2026 salary range: $33.07– $38.66 Per Hour (includes locality rate)

Travel Requirements: Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY) may be required

Areas of Consideration (AOC): Department – wide (DoD)

Desired Skills:

6+ years of flightline engine experience and craftsman level qualifications desired

Familiarity with Air Force information systems and engine data tracking processes desired

Experience with both Pratt & Whitney -220/-229 and GE -129 engines desired.

Major Duties:

Duty 1: Troubleshoots one or more types/models of modified aircraft engines on the flightline, in test cells or maintenance shops

Duty 2: Disassembles, repairs and reassembles aircraft engines, assemblies and components

Duty 3: Uses a variety of hand and power tools to accomplish required tasks

Duty 4: Utilizes safety practices/procedures and follows established safety rules and regulations

Duty 5: Applies technical data and equipment specifications to determine modification impacts to overall system operation

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest
  • Must be qualified on either Pratt & Whitney -220/-229 or GE -129 engines; preferably qualified on both
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain engine run certification
  • May be required to work overtime. rotating shifts, uncommon tours, weekends, etc.
  • Must be able to deploy with aircraft to enable modifications or temporary duties for test or training missions.
  • Must be be able to pass a pre-employment physical
  • Must be able to work outside or inside in areas that are drafty and noisy
  • Must be able to stand on concrete, metal or hard composition floors and work above head for extended periods
  • Must be able to read and interpret technical documents including blueprints, schematics and other technical information
  • This is a designated Drug Testing Position.
  • The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license may be required.
  • Obtain & maintain appropriate security clearance
