About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Supervisory General Engineer (NH-0801-03) to work at the 896th Test Support Squadron (896 TSS/RNME) at Eglin Air Force Base.

In this position you will serve as an Instrumentation Engineering Section Chief with the responsibility of overseeing a multi-disciplinary team of engineers that applies engineering principles to plan, design, and integrate executable and sustainable airborne instrumentation solutions in support of Developmental and Operational Test and Evaluation.

Location: Eglin Air Force Base, FL

Typical 2026 salary range: $89,508 to $138,370 per year (includes Locality)

Travel Requirements: Approximately 10 days per year.

Areas of Consideration (AOC): Department – wide (DoD)

Desired Skills:

5 years of experience in the following:

- Experience with aircraft modifications for Test & Evaluation

- Experience with USAF Airworthiness

Supervisor experience desired.

Major Duties:

1. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities, including planning work, evaluating performance, and managing appointments and reassignments.

2. Plans, organizes, and oversees the activities of the unit by developing goals, establishing policies, and optimizing resources.

3. Serves as a consultant and expert in engineering, providing authoritative technical advice and innovative recommendations on advanced concepts and principles.

4. Represents the organization in various installation and functional area forums, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external partners.

5. Manages and evaluates the development or production of systems and subsystems to meet cost, schedule, performance, and supportability criteria.

6. Leads and directs a disciplined engineering approach to ensure operational safety, suitability, and effectiveness (OSS&E) are maintained throughout a system's lifecycle.

7. Develops and implements new applications or technologies to resolve unique and complex engineering issues.

8. Reviews, prepares, and presents oral and written reports to various levels of leadership, including Air Force and DoW.

9. Identifies the need for special projects, initiates milestones and goals, and performs follow-up actions to resolve issues.

10. Mentors, motivates, and appraises staff to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources. 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest
  • This is a designated Drug Testing Position
  • Professional engineering degree at the bachelor’s level from an ABET accredited institution
  • Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) T&E Practitioner
  • Knowledge of a wide range of advanced multidisciplinary professional engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, and techniques to apply experimental theories and new developments to problems not susceptible to treatment by accepted methods, and to plan and execute specialized programs of marked difficulty, responsibility, and significance.
  • Knowledge of and skill in evaluating state-of-the-art and advancements in theory, application, technology, and policy affecting systems being developed, and in planning, organizing, and directing the functions and staff in critical aspects of development, production, and/or support of systems, subsystems, or equipment.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective relationships, building consensus and coalitions, negotiating, and resolving conflicts with a variety of individuals and organizations as well as communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions of an organization, and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff as well as analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources.
