About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time General Engineer (NH-0801-03) to work at the 412th Test Wing, 412th Test Engineer Group, 412th Range Squadron, Range Operations Flight (412 RANS/ENROA) at Edwards AFB in Edwards, CA.

The primary purpose of this position is: to serve as a senior professional engineer responsible for test engineering activities in assigned programs/projects. Considered a technical expert for the organization in test engineering assignments; employee provides technical leadership and management in planning, analyzing, and reviewing test and evaluation efforts. Employee applies advanced multidisciplinary engineering techniques and management principles to determine optimum test approaches and procedures for achieving program test and evaluation objectives, and/or to determine operational or technical adequacy of item or system requirements or specifications.

Typical 2026 salary range: $104,349 - $161,313 per year (includes Locality)

Travel Requirements: 20% of the time (6-8 weeks out of the year)

Areas of Consideration (AOC): Installation  – wide (Edwards AFB)

Desired Skills:

- 5 years of radio frequency (RF) engineering experience desired.

- 3 to 5 years of flight test experience desired.

- Knowledge or experience in the development and testing of TRL 3-6 products.

Major Duties:

- Performs a broad range of multidisciplinary professional engineering work to manage test and evaluation (T&E) efforts for assigned programs. Applies expert knowledge and mastery of advanced engineering theories, principles, concepts, standards, and methods to modify and extend theories and/ or practices in the specialty field

- Develops plans for conducting tests (or a series of tests) to evaluate systems design and capability to meet established performance requirements. Ensures system requirements, interfaces, capability, and program factors are considered in planning, monitoring and reviewing test and test results.

- Develops metrics and interprets analysis and results to ascertain needed changes or modifications to test and evaluation programs. Provides significant and innovative recommendations for advancing programs and/or oversees changes in methods or materials directed by change in requirements, technological advances, or shortcoming in design and/or performance. 

- May plan, coordinate, evaluate, and direct a disciplined engineering approach throughout the life-cycle of an end-item or system to ensure that operational use, configuration changes, maintenance repairs, and part substitutions do not negatively impact efforts to achieve operational safety, suitability, and effectiveness.

- Participates in planning conferences, prepares management reports, and conducts technical presentations for planning, implementation, and corrective action. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with all associated personnel.

- In support of engineering reviews and/or panels, develops evaluations and technical justifications of feasibility, practicability, and technical soundness. Presents briefings and develops technical reports to document progress and results.

  • This position requires a secret, or a top secret and possibly SCI security clearances as well as possible clearances with special access programs.
  • A professional engineering degree at the bachelor's level from an ABET accredited institution is required. 
  • Knowledge of a wide range of professional engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment to effectively apply advanced multidisciplinary engineering theories and concepts to test and evaluation activities and advisory services.
  • Skill in negotiating and/or defending test results, test program concepts, and in communicating clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy.
  • Ability to execute projects and/or studies within established financial/or time constraints; to gather, assemble, analyze facts, form conclusions, devise and recommend solutions to problems; and work in a professional manner with peers, management, contractors, academia, and other agencies.
