About the Role:

The 412th Maintenance Group is looking for a Full-Time Sheet Metal Mechanic, (Aircraft) (WG-3806-08T11) to work at the 412 Test Wing, 412 Maintenance Group, 412 Maintenance Squadron, Fabrication Flight / Sheet Metal/Composite Shop (MXMFS) at Edwards AFB.

To develop templates for, or lay out, construct, assemble, and install unconventional, one-of-a-kind aircraft sheet metal items, systems, or apparatus for a one-time project or in support of experimental or testing activities for the sheet metal and plastic fabricator work portion of the Structures Section in the Fabrication Flight.

Location: Edwards, CA (Edwards Air Force Base)

Typical 2026 salary range: $84,023 - $118,959 per year (includes Locality)

Travel Requirements: Up to 25% travel possible.

Areas of Consideration (AOC): Command – wide (AFMC)

Desired Skills:

- Must be team player, able and willing to work with both military and civilian personnel.

- Outstanding communication skills.

- Multiple airframe experience desired.

- Willingness to follow work direction from supervisor or training lead.

Major Duties:

- Plans and lays out, manufactures, modifies and/or repairs a variety of aircraft parts, components and forming aids.

- Modifies aircraft frame segments such as structural members and reinforcements.

- Uses/maintains tools and follows all safety practices and procedures.

- Performs major structural repairs of damaged aircraft.

- Maintains equipment records and documents actions.

- Ensure all mandatory training requirements are completed withing prescribed timelines.

- Ensure accurate documentation of all maintenance performed.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest
  • Obtain & maintain Security clearance
  • This is a designated Drug Testing Position.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical.
  • Knowledge of planning, layout, and aircraft sheet metal and composite repair.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of metals and how their characteristics fit needs.
  • Skill in using a wide variety of manual and and automated tools/equipment of the trade.
