About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Supervisory Computer Scientist (NH-1550-03) to work at the 412th Test Wing, 412th Test Engineering Group, 412th Range Squadron, Engineering Flight (412 RANS/ENRE) at Edwards AFB.

The mission of Range Engineering is to serve as the sustainment flight for all Range Squadron systems. The flight is responsible for managing all Range Squadron test system support and accomplishing long and short range internal project planning. The flight also develops and engineers systems to satisfy new requirements generated by Range Squadron customers and AFTC Leadership. The Range Squadron is committed to satisfying customer needs, reducing costs, improving mission turnaround time, providing adequate resources and assets, enabling people to excel, sustaining technological superiority, improving quality of life issues and increasing throughput through the use of best business practices.

Location: Edwards, CA (Edwards Air Force Base)

Typical 2026 salary range $104,349 - $161,313 per year (includes Locality)

Travel Requirements: up to 25% Travel

Desired Skills:

- 3 years experience managing technical projects.

- 3 years experience leading teams.

- 3 years experience designing/implementing technical systems.

Major Duties:

- Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short/long-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work.

- Evaluates work performance of subordinates.

- Identifies developmental and training needs of employees, providing or arranging for needed development and training.

- Serves as the technical expert for real-time and post-flight data operations/engineering activities.

- Keeps management apprised of current activities within the Section and advises management on potential improvements and upgrades to systems/capabilities.

- Develops and implements work plans to accomplish major tasks.

- Manages operation of the section through consultation with employees, review of reports and management reviews.

- Collaborates with chiefs from other sections, flights, or outside organizations on problems related to flight test support requirements.

- Through interaction with Combined Task Force (CTF) personnel, project manager, contractors and Test Wing personnel, matches Section resources to AFTC flight test requirements.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest
  • Obtain & maintain Top Secret Security clearance
  • This is a designated Drug Testing Position
  • Education requirements: Bachelor's Degree (Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics)
  • Certifications: Must be able to obtain a Security+ Certification
  • Knowledge of advanced concepts, principles, and techniques across multiple interrelated and integrated technical and test engineering disciplines.
  • Knowledge of flight and laboratory air vehicle/missile test conduct, coordination and supervision, data analysis/evaluation and applicable flight test truth sources, modeling and simulation, technical report preparation, and administrative aspects of flight test programs.
  • Ability to plan and organize work, coordinate between various electronic/aerospace/mechanical engineering and test disciplines, and coordinate with other Air Force, DoW, and other domestic and foreign government agencies.
  • Ability to research, analyze, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and procedures to a variety of situations and to recommend timely and economical solutions.
