About the Role:
The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Instructional Systems Specialist - STARBASE Teacher (NH-1750-02) to work at the Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) in the Air Force Test Center (AFTC), at the 412th Test Wing, STARBASE, at Edwards AFB in Edwards, CA.

Provide Innovative and Dynamic personnel, MWR, Family Support, Work Force Development and Resources to the Edwards AFB Community. The primary purpose of this position is to teach and assist in the coordination of daily operations of the STARBASE program. The employee provides instruction in a STEM K-12 program where the paramount qualification requirement is a combination of practical knowledge of the methods, and techniques of teaching and practical knowledge of the subject matter being taught, especially in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

Typical 2026 salary range $47,490 - $113,185 per year (includes Locality)

Desired Skills:
- Education, training and/or experience in STEM are desired, because STARBASE instructors will teach a five-day STEM curriculum (from 9A-2P) for roughly thirty 5th grade classes per year on Edwards Air Force Base.
- Desire to do community outreach when not teaching, because STARBASE instructors will also assist with community outreach events, both on base and off.
- Desire to do hands on teaching activities with students, because STARBASE instructors teach a five-day STEM academy that is all hands-on and interactive for students.
- Computer and technology skills desired, because STARBASE instructors have access to many different types of technology in the classroom for instruction (iPads, Laptops, Sphero, Lego Spikes, Oculus, etc.).
- Ability to work with students who are culturally and ethnically diverse, who have a variety of learning styles, and who have limited English speaking or writing skills, because STARBASE instructors work with all school districts that have partnerships with Edwards Air Force Base.
- Desire to be exposed to active military-civilian partnerships on base, because STARBASE instructors regularly have STEM speakers visit classes and go on base field trips to provide STEM career exposure for students.
- Desire to grow professionally over time, because STARBASE instructors do not have many “normal” teaching duties (grading, regularly creating new lessons, attending IEP/504 meetings, etc.) and therefore, STARBASE instructors have more time to focus on growing professionally in their fields.

Major Duties:
- Assignments typically involve teaching lessons such as elementary/middle/secondary level science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
- These lessons are typically in basic STEM; including topics like computer technology, aviation, aerospace, and other technologies.
- The employee is responsible for overall operation of daily class schedule and activities. The employee assists the STARBASE Director in planning and conducting teacher orientations for visiting schools and/or workshops for teachers in STEM Education.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship

- Obtain & maintain Security clearance.

- Bachelor’s required; California teaching credential preferred.
- Knowledge of instructional techniques in an elementary and/or middle school setting.
- Knowledge of basic computer technology necessary to teach lessons at the elementary/middle school level and to perform their administrative duties.
- Subject matter knowledge of a range of STEM concepts, principles, and practices in lessons comparable at the elementary/middle school level preferred.
- Knowledge of the principles, methods, practices, and techniques of specialty areas to evaluate, revise, or develop curriculum, materials, aids, methods, training plans, etc.
