About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Electronics Engineer (NH-03-0855) to work at the Detachment 1, 413th Flight Test Squadron at Nellis Air Force Base.     

In this position you will serve as an Electronics Engineer in the Det 1, 413 FLTS developing instrumentation in support of the acquisition, development, or sustainment of HH-60W systems, components, and/or support equipment. The position is responsible for developing airworthiness packages, data gathering solutions, and post-data processing for execution of flight test. Engineering responsibility extends through development and final approval of test products, to execution, and to fielding and service use.

Location: Las Vegas, Nevade (Nellis Air Force Base)

Typical 2026 salary range: $89,508-  $138,370 per year (includes Locality)

Areas of Consideration (AOC): Department – wide (DoD)

Desired Skills:

- 4 years avionics or aircraft instrumentation experience

- 2 years of experience with flight test

- 4 years experience creating airworthiness packages

Major Duties:

- Perform professional electronics engineering for the acquisition, development, or sustainment of weapon systems, subsystems, and support equipment, including major range instrumentation systems like radio, microwave, fiber optics, and telemetry.

- Develop system performance requirements, objectives, and integration plans. Estimate time and resources for the design, development, and support of systems and support facilities.

- Use systematic and quantifiable approaches to implement, develop, and document projects. Develop metrics and perform analysis to recommend changes or modifications to production methods and procedures.

- Perform development engineering for systems and devices, applying diverse engineering practices to anticipate project needs and modify priorities from concept to production, operation, and disposal.

- Guide, motivate, and oversee the activities of individuals and teams, assuming ownership of processes and products to address project and program issues.

- Develop, integrate, and implement solutions to diverse and highly complex problems that span multiple technical areas and disciplines.

- Define, direct, and lead highly challenging projects and programs, establishing precedents in applying problem-solving techniques to enhance existing processes.

- Present technical briefings to obtain consensus or approval and develop reports to document progress and results. Provide status updates and advisory services to superiors on problems and projects.

- Establish alliances with customers, anticipate their needs, and translate those needs into program and project requirements to ensure mission accomplishments.

- Identify and optimize resources to accomplish the goals of multiple projects and programs within established guidelines.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest
  • Mastery of professional electronics engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, and methods applied to system design, architecture, and integration.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of systems engineering issues and best practices to successfully plan, design, test, troubleshoot, evaluate, and oversee the development or sustainment of complex electronic systems.
  • Working knowledge of related engineering disciplines and standard federal acquisition regulations, policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex technical data and establish requirements for technical objectives and system characteristics.
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy- both orally and in writing- across a wide range of professional, military, and civilian contacts.
  • Proficiency in using advanced computer applications to support engineering planning, designing, analysis, and reporting.
  • Must possess a professional engineering degree from an accredited institution.
  • Must be able to successfully obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance as required by the position.
  • Must possess or be capable of obtaining the appropriate Acquisition Professional Development Program certification.
