About the Role:

Air Force Material Command is looking for a full-time Plumber, WG-4206-09, to work at 96 Test Wing, 96 Civil Engineer Group, 796 Civil Engineer Squadron, Alarms Shop (CES/CEOFA) at Eglin Air Force Base.

The primary purpose of this position is to perform the full range of journeyman level plumbing duties such as installing, repairing, and modify water supply, sewage disposal, and similar utility systems and equipment to include water mains, backflow preventers, fire hydrants, sewage pumps, and lawn irrigation systems.

Typical 2026 salary range: $63,876 - $74,484 per year (includes Locality)

Travel Requirements: TDY for certification or advanced training may be required. Responds to other sites/locations throughout Eglin range.

Areas of Consideration (AOC): Department – wide (DoD)

Desired Skills:

Skill in installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing suppression systems.

Knowledgeable in supply and distribution equipment related to fire suppression systems.

Knowledge of various fire extinguishing systems.

Major Duties:

- Independently installs, modifies, repairs, and maintains a variety of new and existing utility, supply , and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, water closets, tubs, backflow prevention devices/assemblies, fire sprinkler systems, and showers.

- Plans and accomplishes work from initial layout to final assembly which involves interpreting, and applying building plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches, and other plumbing guides/codes, and using shop mathematics.

- Troubleshoot/test various plumbing systems and equipment including backflow prevention devices such as reduced pressure principles devices, double check devices, atmospheric vacuum breakers, and other cross connection devices.

- Uses and maintains tools such as tapes, rules, plumb bobs, hand and power pipe threaders, cutters, pipe wrenches, angle drills, hacksaws and power saws, power sever cleaning equipment, various gas detectors and meters.

- Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing. 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest
  • This is a designated Drug Testing Position
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical
  • A valid driver's license will be required for the position.
  • As required, may train and/or guide other personnel in performance of plumbing duties.
  • Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, operation, and repair, to include routing, placement, slant, slope, and fall of systems; and of technical practices in order to plan, lay out, install, modify, troubleshoot, and repair various systems and equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, procedures, and practices.
  • Sill in installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment without more than normal supervision.
