About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for Full-Time Aircraft Mechanic Leader (Aircraft Pneudraulics Systems Trainer) (WL-8852-12) to work at the 412th Test Wing, 412th Maintenance Group, 412th Maintenance Squadron, Maintenance Flight Name (412 MXS/MXMX) at Edwards AFB, CA.

 

In this position you will lead three or more workers to accomplish trades and labor work on a substantially full time and continuing basis. Leader is responsible to both perform the work assigned by a supervisor and ensures that subordinates completed assigned work consistent with trades and labor standards.

Location: Edwards, CA (Edwards Air Force Base)

Typical 2026 salary range: $55.54 - $64.79 per hour (includes Locality)

Travel Requirements: May be required to go TDY

Areas of Consideration (AOC): Installation  – Edwards, Test Wing

Desired Skills:

- 2 years of of Crash, Damaged, Disabled Aircraft Recovery (CDDAR) experience

- 2 years experience performing wheel/tire maintenance

- 1 year experience performing transient alert duties

Major Duties:

- Performs nonsupervisory trades and labor work that is usually of the same kind and level as members of the work crew led.

- Performs the entire spectrum of trades/and or labor task appropriate for the occupations and grade of the team for which they are assigned working leader.

- Conducts training to refresh or broaden the skills of experienced aircraft inspectors.

- Maintains records pertaining to training, and aircraft maintenance work  accomplishments as required.

- As directed, assists or leads crews responding to inflight emergencies (IFE} or crash recovery operations, follows instructions from supervisor, senior mechanic, or fire

department personnel to assist at scene as needed.

- Performs variety of duties for transient alert or work involving aircraft wheels and tires.

- Performs duties in a safe manner, utilizing safety practices and procedures, and complying with established safety rules and regulations.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest
  • Obtain & maintain Security clearance
  • This is a designated Drug Testing Position
  • Must be able to qualify/maintain a flight line driver’s license, operate government vehicles, AGE, and to pass physical examinations.
  • Subject to rotating shifts, TDYs, overtime, and uncommon tour of duty. May be assigned other duties deemed necessary within the section to support its mission.
  • May be required to act as engine run certifying official on initial and annual recertification. Incumbent must be able to communicate effectively with students, both by oral means and by demonstrating work methods and techniques, particularly when utilizing on-the-job training methods.
