About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Computer Scientist NH-1550-03 to work at the 412th Test Wing, 412th Electronic Warfare Group, 772nd Test Squadron (772 TS/EWOT) at Edwards Air Force Base.

 

The function of the Technical Support Flight is to assure efficient operation of the Benefield Anechoic Facility (BAF) in accordance with the Air Force Test Center mission and USAF avionics/planning guidance and strategies. The primary mission of the BAF is to support installed systems testing for avionics test programs requiring a large, shielded anechoic chamber. The purpose of this position is to develop software needed to process test engineering and management information data within the BAF.

Typical 2026 salary range: $104,349 - $161,313 per year (includes Locality)

Travel Requirements: Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY) by military or commercial aircraft approximately 60 days per year.

Desired Skills:

- 2 years of experience programming in C# desired.

- 2 years of experience working on a software team utilizing agile software development methodology desired.

- Experience working with instrumentation systems desired.

Major Duties:

- Analyzes computer requirements and prepares specifications and designs. Performs evaluation, documentation, modification, monitoring and quality control over computer programs and information handling systems.

- Accomplishes systems programming including development of analysis routines and processing techniques in support of the Benefield Anechoic Facility (BAF) test applications, test data extraction, processing, and data reduction and analysis. Serves as a specialist on data acquisition related issues associated with real-time data acquisition mission support. Provides on-site real-time data acquisition support to all assigned projects.

- Formulates, develops and implements new computer software methods and techniques. Develops new approaches for application to particular assignments, problems, or responsibilities of the BAF. May be required to independently study and prepare reports in such areas as data processing procedures and software methods used in testing with unique and off-the-shelf computer systems.

- Participates as a team member on large projects. May be required to perform as a team leader to delegate, manage, direct, review and monitor the work and progress of a team. Project functions include the identification of requirements, preparation of specifications, research and design of methods, development or modification of software, testing and implementation of products and documentation and publication of efforts.

- Directs work efforts and controls quality by reviewing results of test cases and using standard software engineering practices. Reviews accomplishments to insure completeness, efficiency and accuracy.

- Assures the technical adequacy and timeliness of results. Prepares, monitors and/or directs preparation of documentation including technical, programmer and operational (user) manuals and guides. Supports ongoing software configuration management and adheres to all software standards of the Branch.

- Provides technical advice, guidance, assistance and training to contractors, tenant organizations, engineers, mathematicians, computer scientists, data analysts, programmers, etc., involved with AFTC projects utilizing, or receiving products from the BAF's software systems.

- Estimates software support requirements for test stations, including those needed for real time instrumentation and information display, configuration management, system updates and accounting and access control.

- Represents Flight in meetings and discussions with contractors and other government agency personnel to exchange information, participate in special studies and obtain services concerned with and related to assigned projects or special work areas.

- Attends and chairs meetings involved with new and existing software and data processing requirements in assigned areas of specialization, projects, or functions. Resolves complaints concerning existing software processing and identifies requirements for software changes. 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Obtain & maintain Top-Secret Security clearance.
  • This is a drug testing designated position.
  • Experience in programming Real-Time data bus monitoring and display systems such as our Veridian Integrated Telemetry processing and analysis System (ITAS), computer data processing techniques and computer programming (Visual Basic and C++) for mission-critical computer systems and special test equipment used in real time avionics ground testing.
  • Knowledge of current state-of-the-art developments in data processing and computer programming techniques, computers, information storage and retrieval systems, control and utility programs, mathematics and mathematical algorithms related to BAF tests of new conventional and unconventional aircraft avionics systems/subsystems.
  • Ability to understand the role data processing and software development activities play in providing information to the various engineering disciplines that accomplish BAF test planning, mission execution, data acquisition and analysis.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to a broad range of personnel and to use modern computer applications in support of communications and presentations.
