About the Role:
The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Fire Inspector (GS-0081-08) to work at the 412th Test Wing, 412th Civil Engineer Group, 812th Civil Engineer Squadron, Fire and Emergency Services (812 CES/CEFO) at Edwards Air Force Base.
The primary purpose of this position is to perform the duties of a Fire Inspector in accordance with Air Force Instructions, National Fire Code Criteria and other applicable codes, guidance and regulatory directives. Incumbent conducts fire inspections; reviews construction requests and projects; provides fire safety briefings and training classes; develops and implements fire prevention informational programs; monitors service contracts; investigates fires; prepares correspondence and maintains files and automated records.

Major Duties:
-Conducts an information program to elicit support and involvement in fire prevention, detection, and suppression.
-Performs regular and periodic fire protection and investigation inspections for all areas of the installation and identifies conditions, practices and procedures that could result in a fire.
-Inspects and identifies deficiencies on a variety of fire protection systems, many of which are complex or designed for a specific operation or hazardous condition, (e.g., carbon dioxide, wet and dry chemical, and commercial hood and duct
-Reviews engineering plans and specifications for new construction, alteration, and extension of existing structures.
-Directs operations of assigned firefighting crew vehicles, in order to ensure continuity of command and control during emergency recall situations and as required to maintain manning levels or other special circumstances.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period
- Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest
- Obtain & maintain Security clearance
- This is a designated Drug Testing Position
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical
- Employee must participate in a physical fitness program and complete a mandatory annual peer fitness assessment.
- This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program, Employee is required to pass an annual physical assessment.
- Employee is required to be certified by the DoD Firefighter Certification Program as Fire Inspector II (includes Fire Inspector I), Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Hazmat Awareness. NOTE: The following certifications are also required if a Fire Protection Inspector is utilized to fill in or support a firefighting operations position- Hazmat Tech/IC, Airport Firefighter (includes Firefighter I, II) and a minimum of National Registry Emergency Medical Responder.
- Normal tour of duty for the position is a 60 hour week consisting of four nine hour days and one 24 hour day. Employee may be required to work rotating shifts which may include evenings, weekends and holidays. May be required to work overtime or attend temporary duty training away from the installation.
