About the Role:
The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Operations Duty Officer (NH-0301-03) to work at the USAF Test Pilot School (USAF TPS/FOO) at Edwards AFB.
The purpose of this position is to serve as the USAF TPS Operations Duty Officer (ODO). The individual assists the Director of Operations and the Operations Supervisor (Ops Sup) in managing current and near-term flight operations. This individual is the Ops Desk point of contact for all issues related to ongoing flight operations, including coordination with aircrew, control room, range operations, and aircraft maintenance organizations. Additionally, the individual supports unit flight scheduling, implementation of training policies, and monitors related aircrew compliance and standardization.

Major Duties:
- Responsible for effective and efficient current and near-term flight operations using AFTC/412 TW processes. Liaison responsible for real-time coordination of aircrew, airspace, aircraft tail numbers, aircraft configurations, ranges, communication, control rooms, telemetry, maintenance, instrumentation, and all associated support activities to optimize the TPS mission.
- Responsible for real-time monitoring of information that affects flying and safety, such as weather, NOTAMS, airfield status and restrictions, emergencies, etc. Reviews, prints and posts as required: Notice to Airmen (NOTAMS), weather, lake bed status, winds, configuration sheets, and any other information pertinent to flight and safety.
- Handles ground and in-flight aircraft emergencies IAW local procedures, assisting the aircrew, technical duty officers, Ops Sup, and SOF through a safe resolution.
- Responsible for stepping aircrews. Verifies aircraft configurations, tail numbers, and crew ready status, to include contract aircraft and functional check flights, prior to step.
- Responds to aircrew radio calls using hand-held, mobile, and in-place radios. Use online resources to monitor airborne aircraft, crew readiness, tail number changes, and takeoff and land times. Maintains and gathers data required for mission execution, test planning, scheduling, aircrew and aircraft status, and for flight activity summary reports as requested by the Operations Division.
- Assists and is knowledgeable in scheduling, training, stan/eval, and ARM functions that directly impact current operations and the near term schedule such as: input and change data in COOL, monitor Center Scheduling Enterprise, timely notification to the Operations Division about canceled, aborted, or partially effective flights that may impact the next day's schedule, or handling changes if a required crew compliment is not available to execute the scheduled mission.
- Assists with tracking of aircrew training requirements for students and staff personnel. Ensures training is accomplished in a timely manner to support curriculum and training requirements.
- Interprets inspection findings of oversight agencies and develops actions to correct deficiencies.
- Assists unit Standardization and Evaluation team to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with current directives and aircrew procedures.
- Responsible for in-flight aids, flight equipment, and technical orders needed for flight, such as: flight manuals, aircraft checklists, in-flight guides, low-level maps, data/video recording devices, etc. Manages and tracks items issued to aircrew.
Incorporates changes to flight manuals, aircraft checklists, and in-flight guides.

- Obtain & maintain Secret Security clearance
- In depth knowledge of and practical experience with AFTC and 412 TW flight and test operations, regulations, and policies, and knowledge of Air Force Instructions and Manuals dealing with flight and test operations
- Ability to plan and organize flight and test requirements to adapt to highly dynamic flight operations
- Knowledge of flight scheduling, military aircrew flight training programs, and military standardization and evaluation functions
- Ability to use judgment in interpreting and adapting guidelines to specific and changing situations
