About the Role:
The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Position Painter (WG-4102-09) to work at the 412th Test Wing, 412th Civil Engineer Group, 412th Civil Engineer Squadron, Structures Element (CEOHS) at Edwards AFB, CA.
The primary purpose of this position is to perform the full range of painting, including surface preparation, blending and matching paints, and coating of various surfaces requiring fine finishes and decorative effects.

Typical 2026 salary range: $41.65hr - $48.60hr (includes Locality)

Desired Skills:
5 years of experience in preparing various surfaces of interior/exterior by mechanical or chemical means to remove old paint, rust, and filling cracks, sanding, and applying fillers and base coats - Desired.
5 years of experience in mixing, thinning, blending, matching, tinting, and toning coating materials - Desired
5 years of experience in applying coating materials on roads, parking lots, airfields, using spray guns, vehicle mounted paint equipment, and other industry standard painting equipment - Desired.
Major Duties:
-Spray paints curb markings, street crosswalks, stop limit lines, parking place markers, street island diagonals, and other pavement markings.
-Operates a pusher type, self propelled or truck-mounted painting machine to paint multiple surfaces.
-Complies with environmental laws and regulations when working/disposing chemicals.
-Using paint brushes, rollers, and other tools of the trade will apply multiple coats of paint to various surfaces.
-Maintains records and documents accomplished work using provided computer systems.
-Responsible for determining methods, techniques, materials, and devices best suited for each task assigned.
-Must be able to work alone and in teams, with little to no supervision, with minimal to no rework.
-Must be able to prepare, treat, and finish surfaces outside in all types of weather.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period
- Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest
- Obtain & maintain a Secret Security clearance.
- This is a designated Drug Testing Position
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical.
- Shift work may be required. The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Emergency overtime may be required.
- Skill in applying coating materials using accepted methods of the trade to meet match, texture, decorative, thickness, and level requirements and to achieve special effects. Skill in rubbing down (for fine-texture finishes), marbling, mottling, and graining techniques.
- Skill in reading and applying directions that relate to the mixture, use, and application of various kinds of coating materials, solvents, and pre-coating agents.
- Skill in determining the methods, techniques, devices, and materials best suited to obtain the surface condition and finish required.
