About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Safety and Occupational Health Specialist (NH-0018-02) to work at the 96 Test Wing Safety Office (96TW/SE) at Eglin Air Force Base, FL.

 

96TH TEST WING MISSION:  We test and evaluate state-of-the-art weapon systems and cyberspace capabilities, provide quality installation and mission support, and serve as responsible stewards of our resources to deliver war-winning capabilities. The primary purpose of this position is to perform work in a broad range of occupational safety program elements, such as inspections/surveys, evaluations, mishap investigations, and safety training.

 

Announcement Length/Closes: 30 Days

Location: Eglin AFB, Valparaiso, FL

Typical 2026 salary range: $40,736 - $97,087 Per Year (includes Locality)

Travel Requirements: TDY approximately 20 days per year

Areas of Consideration (AOC): Department – wide (DoD)

Desired Skills:

3 years of Safety and Occupational Health program experience desired

2 years of mishap investigation experience desired

2 years of program and facility inspection experience desired

Major Duties:

Performs periodic inspections and evaluations to determine compliance with appropriate occupational safety and health regulations.

Determines and recommends applicable methods and procedures for controlling and eliminating hazards.

Documents and reviews inspection findings and prepares formal reports for dissemination to appropriate parties.

Conducts follow-up inspections to ensure violations and hazards are corrected.

Plans and carries out formal investigations of reportable and non-reportable mishaps involving personal injury accidents, property damage, and cases of occupational illnesses covering a wide range of work operations.

Compiles and analyzes mishap data, identifies trends, provides manager with mishap/trend analysis data, and assists them in developing programs to reduce mishaps.

Coordinates with other installation offices regarding occupational health matters affecting installation personnel and devises specialized operating practices involving diverse but recognized hazards.

Provides technical safety training/instruction to supervisors, employees, and/or unit safety representatives on a wide range of working operations.

Promotes safety campaigns through oral presentations at local safety committee meetings; and extracts, compiles, and prepares safety articles, bulletins, and pamphlets for local use by base personnel.

Reviews plans and specifications for new construction, major building alterations, and/or changes in installation equipment and monitors project through completion to ensure compliance with safety codes and standards. 

 Qualifications/Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest
  • Knowledge of established safety and occupational health principles, practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and current legislative issues as they relate to the military installation occupational safety program.
  • Knowledge of the requirements, methods, and techniques of mishap investigation, analysis, resolution of normal occupational safety problems/health risks, and formal reporting procedures.
  • Knowledge of communication techniques, principles, and regulations to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in responding to work related problems and questions.
  • Knowledge of standard training techniques, methods, and materials sufficient to prepare and present formal training and instructional sessions.
