About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Security Assistant (NK-0086-02) to work at the 412 Test Wing Information Protection Office (412TW/IP) at Edwards Air Force Base, CA.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Security Assistant for the 412 Test Wing Information Protection Office. Supports a single or multiple 412 Test Wing/Air Force Test Center organizations providing security assistance and clerical support in the management and implementation of Department of Defense and Air Force acquisition, operational and administrative security programs to include: Information Security, Industrial Security, Personnel Security, Operations Security (OPSEC) and Special Access Program Security.

Typical 2026 salary range: $47,490 - $76,476 Per Year (includes Locality)

Areas of Consideration (AOC): Service – wide (US Air Force)

Desired Skills:

- Understanding of security policies and procedures within the DoD and Air Force guidance and instructions

- Experience with training personnel on security policies

- Knowledge of the security incident processes and procedures

- Experience with general administrative support functions

Major Duties:

- Assists in the overall management of the Information Security Program and assists in drafting organizational security policy and correspondence. 

- Assists in the resolution of a wide variety of complex security clearance and personnel security issues through coordination with senior security functionals. 

- Assists in the administration of the Security Education and Training Program for organizational information protection and security programs. 

- Performs administrative office support functions and maintains cooperative working relationships with organizational senior security functionals, security managers, supervisors, operating officials and unit commanders. 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest
  • This is a designated Drug Testing Position
  • This is a national security position. Must be able to obtain/maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
  • Some temporary duty (TDY) travel may be required
  • Knowledge of common and specialized administrative security methods, rules, regulations and principles. Provide assistance to organizational senior security functional and security specialist and perform a wide variety of interrelated or non-standard security assignments, resolve problems and properly handle classified materials.
  • Knowledge of procedures, forms, information and confidentiality requirements related to sensitive personal information, security investigation and special access program access requests and submittal processes to appropriate government agency/organizations.
  • Knowledge of what constitutes derogatory information; the supporting data required to complete adjudication determinations and tiering, and understand security clearance adjudication processes and information/criteria required.
  • Knowledge of one or more automated databases associated with specific security function to recognize, locate and enter data/information; support office and security operations: and develop and provide a variety of documents and reports. This includes: visitor control, access control, personnel security, security training, special access program and other security programs administration.
  • Ability to plan and organize work, follow instructions. and accomplish multiple ongoing projects; and ability to locate, assemble, and compose information for reports, inquiries and technical correspondence. This includes: letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases and graphs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a diverse group of individuals, using a high degree of tact and diplomacy.
