About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Computer Scientist (NH-1550-03) to work at the 412 Test Wing, 412 Test Engineering Group, 812 Test Support Squadron, Test Techniques Flight (812 TSS/ENTT) at Edwards Air Force Base.

The 812 TSS/ENTT flight develops, prototypes, validates, shares, and standardizes new techniques and tools for test data processing, test data analysis, and modeling and simulation for all disciplines within the Engineering Group. They are responsible for meeting personnel requirements (manpower and expertise) for all such projects, implementing all aspects of the squadron mission, and providing technical expertise and guidance to other organizations and agencies (both on and off base) in the area of advanced test and evaluation.

Typical 2026 salary range: $104,349 - $161,313 Per Year (includes Locality)

Desired Skills:

- 2+ years of hands-on experience administering enterprise server hardware (Dell PowerEdge, HPE ProLiant), virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V), and storage systems (SAN/NAS). Includes proficiency with datacenter backup and recovery solutions and physical hardware management (racking, cabling).

- Ability to automate routine administrative tasks using scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash. Proficient in diagnosing and resolving network connectivity issues using standard command-line tools.

- Experience operating within a Department of Defense environment, with demonstrated knowledge of cybersecurity procedures (RMF, DISA STIGs) and lifecycle management on networks like NIPRNet and SIPRNet. An active DoD Secret clearance and a DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+, CySA+) are required.

Major Duties:

- Performs professional engineering duties such as requirements gathering, design, test, upgrade, and deployment of 812 TSS computer systems, virtual machine technologies, and software products to support Test and Evaluation at Edwards AFB and other DoD Ranges.

- Uses modern software design and systems engineering principles to create/test solutions.

- Serves as an 812 TSS, Test Engineering Group, and Air Force Test Center authority in the optimal application of 812 TSS software, virtual machine, and computer hardware resources to best satisfy program requirements.

- Estimates software/hardware support needed for the identification of requirements, preparation of design specifications, testing, implementation, and documentation of application software programs and hardware used for customer support.

- Commits resources within the limits previously established by management to meet customer requirements, using logistically-executable techniques to make most efficient use of funds and materials available.

- Provides technical advice, guidance, assistance, and training to contractors, tenant organizations, engineers, mathematicians, computer scientists, data analysts, and programmers involved with AFTC projects utilizing or receiving software and hardware products from the 812 TSS.

- Attends professional/technical conferences with representatives from industry, other government agencies, and universities to exchange information to maintain currency in state-of-the-art test and evaluation technologies.

- Maintains the ability to express ideas clearly and analytically, document the results of technical analyses, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Obtain & maintain Security clearance. 
  • Education requirements: Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or information technology with a combined 30 semester hours of mathematics and computer science. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited institution.
  • Skill/ability to apply computer science procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to mission support systems especially in the area of data transport, real-time processing, and information systems. Knowledge to apply statistically-defensible methods to test creation and validation.
  • Knowledge of highly sophisticated aircraft systems, telemetry, data distribution architecture, real-time data acquisition systems and state-of-the-art information systems and computer hardware/software.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining productive professional relationships with co-workers, customers and leadership possessing widely varying levels of technical/organizational aptitude. Knowledge/ability to maintain technical/professional credibility with peers on matters pertaining to this position/discipline.
  • Ability to recognize and analyze problems, conduct research, summarize results, and make appropriate recommendations.
