About the Role:
The 96 Test Wing is looking for a Full-Time Aviation/Flight Safety Specialist (NH-0018-03) to work at the 96 Test Wing Flight Safety Office (96TW/SEF) at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.
The primary purpose of this position is to perform flight safety duties in support of the Flight and Flight Test Safety program at Eglin Air Force Base, Duke Field, and the Eglin Range Complex, a multi-mission installation involving diverse ground, aviation, and industrial safety and occupational activities and provide advisory Flight Safety and Flight Test Safety services to multiple base and tenant organizations from AFMC, ACC, AETC, and AFRC as well as US Navy, US Marine Corps, US Army, AFSOC, and USSOCOM forces and civilian/contractor aircraft operations.

Typical 2026 salary range: $89,508 - $138,370 Per Year (includes Locality)
Travel Requirements: Subject to TDY approximately 20 days per year.

Desired Skills:
2-3 years of UAS and/or autonomous systems experience highly desired

Major Duties:
Plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates Host Unit Flight Safety and Flight Test Safety programs for a complex multi-mission installation.
Manages Flight Test Safety programs (e.g., Risk Management Boards, Configuration Control Boards) and traditional Flight Safety programs (e.g., Bird Aircraft Strike Hazard, Mid-Air Collision Avoidance).
Maintains ready status as an Investigative Officer for Safety Investigation Boards, analyzes mishaps and hazardous conditions, and assumes on-call responsibilities for flight-related incidents.
Compiles and analyzes mishap data, identifies trends, and develops recommendations to reduce or eliminate mishaps.
Ensures compliance with all applicable safety regulations/standards and develops specialized local regulations and supplements.
Reviews and recommends modifications to airfield waivers and specifications for new construction, major alterations, and/or airfield changes to ensure compliance with aviation safety standards.
Provides technical safety training and instruction to supervisors, employees, and unit flight safety representatives on a wide range of work operations and maintenance areas.
Promotes safety through poster campaigns, displays, and oral presentations at local and regional safety committee meetings.
Maintains qualification and proficiency in shotgun firing to support the Bird/Wildlife Aircraft Strike Hazard (BASH) program.
Coordinates bird and wildlife mitigation coverage and, when necessary, performs mitigation and depredation of wildlife in designated exclusion zones.

- Knowledge of established safety and occupational health principles, practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and current legislative issues as they relate to the military installation flight and ground safety programs; the requirements, methods, and techniques of accident and mishap investigation, analysis, resolution of safety problems, and formal reporting procedures; and risk assessment methods and techniques for evaluation of aviation flight safety risks. Application of formal mishap prevention and investigative principals acquired in USAF Aircraft Mishap Investigation Course, USAF Jet Engine Mishap Investigation Course, USAF Operational Risk Management Application and Integration Course, and Bird/Wildlife Strike Hazard (BASH) training.
- Knowledge of communication techniques, principles, and regulations to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in responding to work related problems and questions.
- Knowledge of basic airfield construction standards, methods, practices, techniques, materials, and equipment to determine compliance with regulations and standards.
- Skill in the interpretation of engineering drawings and specifications sufficient to identify hazardous conditions of proposed airfield construction.
- Maintain currency and proficiency in the operation and firing of shotguns, to include knowledge about safe storage and
- proper maintenance of the firearms.
- May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
