About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Maintenance Worker Meter Reader (WG-4749-08) to work at the 412th Test Wing, 412th Civil Engineer Group, 412th Civil Engineer Squadron, Environment Controls Element (412th CES/CEOIC) at Edwards AFB.        

To perform utility meter reader duties; read water and electric utility meter collect and record accurate recordings. The Incumbent will also work in the installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of large/complex heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems and support equipment. The incumbent of this position will receive formal, informal, or on-the-job training in the specialty area and at this level are designed to equip the incumbent with the opportunity to perform the duties at the full performance level. This position is not a part of a formal apprentice program and is not targeted to a higher grade. The worker in this position is assigned to a journey level worker who works with and instructs the employee in performing duties common to the trade.

Desired Skills:

Major Duties:

- Reading and recording utility meter data monthly, Identifying, and reporting irregularities

- Receive training assignments in performing preventive maintenance on HVAC/R systems and equipment

- Under guidance from higher grade mechanic performs basic electrical work incidental to the maintenance and operation of HVAC/R systems

- Assists the installation of EMCS or SCADA systems for base wide monitoring and control of all high voltage power generation, water distribution equipment, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning systems. Maintenance of SCADA systems to ensure performance, security, and reliability to meet energy conservation measures

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest
  • Obtain & maintain Security clearance
  • This is a designated Drug Testing Position
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical
  • Shift work may be required
  • The work will require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid state driver's license will be required for the position
  • Incumbent must maintain flight line driving certification
  • Emergency overtime may be required
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays
  • May be required to participate in base contingency exercises
  • Shift work may be required
  • Must obtain and maintain a current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
  • This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions
  • Certifications/Licensure - Position requires CFC/NCFC Certification (universal) as required by 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F., EPA
  • Knowledge of electrical wiring, electronics, and pneumatics to troubleshoot, test, maintain, and calibrate a variety of systems using solid state and/or pneumatic circuitry
  • Skill in making air flow calculations
  • Basic knowledge of principles and theories including the refrigeration cycle, temperature measurement, and the properties of several refrigerants
  • Basic knowledge of electrical wiring, electronics and pneumatics to troubleshot, test, maintain, and calibrate a variety of systems using solid state and/or pneumatic circuitry
  • Skill in using hand tools, portable power tools, and a wide variety of test equipment including special tools, such as acetylene torch, ammeters, refrigeration gauges, electronic leak detectors, control devices, vacuum pump, hydraulic press, and micrometers
