About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Supervisory Child Development Director (NH-1701-03) to work at the 412th Test Wing, 412th Mission Support Group, 412th Force Support Squadron, Child & Youth Programs Flight (412FSS/FSY) at Edwards Air Force Base.

 

To exercise second level supervisory and managerial authorities over a Child Development Center program by planning, organizing, coordinating, and overseeing the day-to-day operations. The early childhood education program is designed to promote children’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth from 6 weeks to 5 years of age. Provides oversight of a variety of developmental services through center based programs of full day care, hourly care and special needs care.

Typical 2025 salary range: $103,316 - $159,716 (including locality pay)

Desired Skills:

- 3 years of supervisory experience in medium to large teams.

- 3 years specific experience in Child Development Centers.

- 3 years experience in Air Force Child and youth programs.

Major Duties:

-Plans work, sets priorities, and prepares schedules for subordinate employees.

-Assigns work to staff based on priorities and employee capabilities, and evaluates their performance.

-Provides guidance and instruction to employees on work and administrative matters.

-Interviews candidates for positions and recommends appointments, promotions, or reassignments.

-Resolves employee complaints and administers minor disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands.

-Identifies training needs for employees and arranges for their professional development.

-Plans and carries out a comprehensive youth development program for ages 6-18, covering sports, arts, leadership, health, and career development.

-Provides technical guidance and direction to Child Development Center staff on daily programming and activities.

-Ensures all Child Development program facilities, including buildings, playgrounds, and sports fields, are maintained in a safe, healthy, and comfortable condition.

Qualifications/Requirements:

- U.S. Citizenship

- This position has been identified as having "regular contact with children". IAW Public Law 101-647Section 231, and Public Law 102-190, Section 1094, a FBI fingerprint and State Criminal History Repository(SCHR) check will be completed on any person selected for this position.

- Must complete all mandatory training IAW Air Force guidance and remain current in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, first aid, and food handler's certifications.

-Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical

- Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in child development, early childhood education, home economics (early childhood emphasis), elementary education, special education, or other fields appropriate to the position to be filled.

- Knowledge of professional youth development; education and recreation principles; and training techniques, theories, and principles; and the behavioral needs of youth with emphasis on social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development.

- Knowledge of youth program principles, concepts, techniques, and the methods and processes involved to effectively plan and conduct ongoing social and sports programs.

- Knowledge of federal and agency policies, applicable laws, ordinances, and regulations governing the management and administration of a youth center and its programs.
