About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Position:  Title: Advanced Fighter Structures & Low Observables Technician (WG-4352-11) to work at the 412 AMXS/ MXAD F-35 AMU at Edwads AFB, Ca.

 

The primary purpose of this position is: To provide on/off equipment maintenance for 5th Generation fighter aircraft assigned to the AFTC. Additionally, incumbent is responsible to troubleshoot, inspect, repair, modify, test and maintain advanced structural composite components, internal and external, and accessories of aircraft structures assemblies/subassemblies and Low Observable systems, sub-systems and applicable aircraft specialized coatings. Assembles structural parts and components to meet requirements for preserving structural integrity and low observable qualities. Identify, remove and prevent corrosion including proper application of corrosion inhibitors. Uses metal working equipment and tools to form, cut, bend and fasten replacement or repair parts, damaged structures, and components. To prepare aircraft for and perform scheduled and unscheduled inspections, repairs, maintenance, and modifications. These aircraft are typically: (a) modified Type-2 systems for development or test and evaluation; (b) special instrumented to accomplish test missions; ( c) assigned in support of research and development tests in which they approach design limitations; ( d) in most instances are first article or early series/production prototype aircraft with an original life expectancy to cover tests only, but may be retained in use as “Follow On Test and Evaluation" vehicles.

Typical 2025 salary range: $45.20-$52.73 per hour (includes locality)

Desired Skills:

- 2 Years of Structure and Low Observable experience desired

- 2 years of flight test experience desired

- 2 years aircraft mechanic experience desired
 

Major Duties:

- Reads, interprets, and understands blueprints, engineering, manufacturing process specifications, and plans sequence of operations for final finish applications on low observable aircraft, parts, assemblies and test articles.

- Apply, re-work, or repair aircraft low observable coatings and finishes.

- Aircraft structural repair, use of equipment including metal forming machinery, precision drilling techniques, aircraft structural fastening application equipment.

Qualifications/Requirements:

- U.S. Citizenship

- Obtain & maintain Security clearance

- Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical

- Ability to do the work of Flight Test Structure and Low Observable Technician without more than normal supervision.

- In depth knowledge of equipment, assembly, installation, repair, troubleshooting and operation of high-performance test modified

- and standard Low Observable coating systems associated with flight-test aircraft.

- In depth knowledge of equipment, assembly, installation, repair, troubleshooting and operation of high-performance test modified

- and standard aircraft structural repair and advanced composite procedures associated with flight test aircraft.

- Knowledge of instructions, specifications, technical drawings, blueprints, technical orders, contractor process specifications and aircraft Documentation in computer-based maintenance tracking systems
