About the Role:
The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Maintenance Mechanic (Carpenter) (WG-4709-09) to work at the 412th Test Wing, 412th Civil Engineer Group, 412th Civil Engineer Squadron, Structures Element (CEOHS) at Edwards Air Force Base, CA.
In this position, you will serve as an Carpenter/Mason Journeyman with primary duties to provide full performance level carpentry, masonry and roofing work in constructing, installing, maintaining, repairing and modifying structures and items requiring close tolerance fit, structural soundness and fine finishes. A strong candidate would possess professional knowledge of engineering concepts, principles and practices to provide all resources necessary to perform construction, repair and maintenance services tasks inclusive of all accessories and components of the primary, secondary, ancillary, auxiliary and associated structural systems at Edwards Air Force Base and the Air Force Research Laboratory. Lastly should demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and maintain good working relations.

Typical 2025 salary range: $31.60 - $36.89 per hour (includes locality)

Desired Skills:
- Potential candidates should be self-driven and motivated.
- 5 years of experience in general construction techniques.
- Extensive knowledge of Finish Carpentry including door installation / cabinetry and all components (lock, hinges, door closer, threshold, and door sweep).
- General knowledge of acoustic suspension systems.
- General knowledge on interior demolition/renovation.
Major Duties:
- Participation in a rotating on-call schedule including evenings, holidays and weekends.
- Performs preventative maintenance/ inspections on roof and fixed ladder systems.
- Plans and Lays work out from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, and work orders in the construction and maintenance of installation facilities
- Independently apply skilled methods, techniques and advanced shop mathematics to construct, install, repair, and modify a wide variety of structures.
- Performs masonry tasks involved in the maintenance, repair, and construction of a variety of structures and surfaces of brick, block, stone, and other related materials.
- Performs work involved in the maintenance, installation, repair, and weatherproofing of roofs
- Performs work in the application and finishing of plaster surfaces in the construction and repair of interior walls and ceilings and stucco exterior walls.
- Maintains, repairs, computes concrete requirements, and constructs cement and concrete surfaces.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Obtain & maintain Security clearance
- The work will require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license will be required for the position
- The employee may be classified as Mission Essential
- Shift work may be required
- May be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends and/or holidays
- Emergency overtime may be required
- Must obtain and maintain a current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
- May be required to train/guide lower-graded (or other trades) military/civilian employees
- Incumbent will be required to obtain a licensed to operate Power Actuated Tools
- Will be required to be certified for working with and/or removing hazardous material
- This is designated Drug Testing Position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use
- Flight line Driving/Testing is required
- Will be required to participate in base contingency exercises
