About the Role:
The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Mechanical Test Engineer (NH-0830-03) to work at the 96TW McKinley Climatic Laboratory at Eglin Air Force Base (782TS/RNWC).
The primary purpose of this position is: to serve as a professional mechanical engineer and project manager in support of Air Force systems, components, and/or equipment. The position is responsible for work concerning the design, development, commission, manufacture, operation, testing, modification, maintenance, and disposal of mechanical devices and systems, their equipment, and/or components. Establishes preliminary design and performance characteristics for mechanical systems and subsystems of aircraft, as well as the mechanical mechanisms and components of related subsystems. Engineering responsibility extends through development to final approval for production and service use.

Typical 2025 salary range: $88,621 - $137,000 per year (includes locality)
Travel Requirements: Up to 25% travel possible

Desired Skills:
- 3 years of experience in mechanical engineering desired
- Willing to work in extreme environments ranging from -65°F to 165°F (-54°C to 74°C), hurricane-force winds, blinding snow, tropical rainforests, and even intense solar radiation (with appropriate PPE provided).
- 2 years of experience providing technical direction to personnel in support of the T&E of military equipment.
Major Duties:
- Performs professional mechanical engineering work in support of major mechanical systems and support programs for a weapon system.
- Employs scientific and engineering principles to design, develop, test, evaluate, and/or determine maintenance requirements.
- Performs analysis and uses systematic, disciplined, and quantifiable approaches to implement, develop, and document projects or tasks.
- Performs project/program management responsibilities to determine the business and technical needs of customers.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Obtain & maintain Security clearance
- This is a designated Drug Testing Position
- Education requirements BS in Mechanical Engineering
- DAWIA Certification Test and Evaluation, Level 2 - Practitioner
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
- Broad professional knowledge of a wide range of mechanical engineering theories, principles, practices, concepts, processes. and techniques sufficient to determine and/or execute actions for a wide range of assignments involving project development and execution.
- Knowledge of engineering standards and methods to formulate, and execute, advise on, and explain recommendations or solutions to modify standard practices, equipment, devices, systems, processes, and techniques and resolve a wide variety of complex problems.
- Knowledge of advanced processes and practices to provide oversight and direction; to adapt precedents or existing strategies to meet unusual needs or special demands; and to prepare, present, and evaluate plans, designs, reports, and correspondence.
- Ability to analyze data and communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing.
