About the Role:
The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Position NH-1550-03 Computer Scientist to work at the 96 Test Wing, 96 Range Group, 96 Range Control Squadron (96RNCS/RNCEM) at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.
96TH TEST WING MISSION: We test and evaluate state-of-the-art weapon systems and cyberspace capabilities, provide quality installation and mission support, and serve as responsible stewards of our resources to deliver war-winning capabilities.
The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as senior computer scientist in the evaluation and implementation of computer programs to support cross functional projects that improve overall mission effectiveness. To manage the conduct of studies to determine the most efficient and cost effective means of accomplishing the mission of the 96 Test Wing (TW).

Typical 2025 salary range: $88,621 - $137,000 (includes locality)

Desired Skills:
- Expertise in Linux and/or Windows Server administration, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
- Proficient in virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, or cloud-based solutions) with experience in VM creation, management, and migration.
- Skilled in scripting languages (Bash, PowerShell, Python) for automation of system administration tasks and infrastructure management.
- Solid understanding of storage solutions (NetApp) and file system management.
- Ability to implement and maintain robust backup and recovery solutions.
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools (Nagios, Zabbix, ELK stack, Splunk) for proactive system health management.
- Proficient in reviewing, interpreting, and implementing DISA STIGs (Security Technical Implementation Guides).
- Ability to harden network infrastructure and ensure compliance with cybersecurity policies and regulations.
Major Duties:
- Ensure optimal performance and stability of existing information systems across multiple networks, proactively identifying and resolving issues to support the diverse and critical missions of the 96th Test Wing.
- Develop and implement innovative information system strategies to support the seamless deployment of cutting-edge technologies, drive advanced capabilities and enhance operational effectiveness.
- Prepare technical reports, memorandum, system diagrams and other documentation in clear, concise, and logical form suitable to management and the scientific community.
- Ability to work collaboratively with team members to troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues in a timely and efficient manner.
- Ensure a strong security posture for NIPR and internal information systems through rigorous implementation of DISA STIGs and adherence to Air Force cyber policies, mitigating risks and maintaining compliance.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Obtain & maintain Security clearance
- This is a designated Drug Testing Position
- Bachelor's degree in computer science/computer engineering or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science.
- Obtain and maintain CompTIA Security+ Certification
- Professional knowledge of computer science principles, concepts and practices applicable to a wide range of duties associated with informational systems software design and development activities. Requires a four-year degree in computer science or related field.
- Ability to modify standard practices and adapt technique, to solve a wide variety of interrelated problems to adapt precedents and make departures from previous approaches to similar projects to provide for specialized requirements.
- Knowledge and skill to gather, assemble, and analyze facts, draw conclusions, devise solutions to problems, and identify changes and trends.
- Skill in applying analytical and evaluation techniques to the identification, consideration, and resolution issues or problems concerning efficiency and effectiveness of program operations.
- Ability to participate in study teams; originate new Ideas, projects, and methodologies; and execute projects and/or studies within established time constraints.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; negotiates complex Issues; and maintains good working relations.
