About the Role:
The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Range Safety Officer (NH-0801-03) to work at the 412th Test Wing, Safety, Range Safety (412 TW/SER) at Edwards Air Force Base.
The Test and Range Safety Office provides Range safety support to ensure that the general public, test area personnel, public and private lands, and test area resources are provided an acceptable level of safety, and that test operations adhere to public laws and Department of Defense directives. This office supports the customer through the development of weapon safety footprints, flight termination system design and certification compliance with Range Commander's Council (RCC) standards, laser safety analysis, and real-time mission support. This includes inter- and intra- Range safety analysis, planning, coordination, and test execution.

Major Duties:
- Manages and identifies test resources that include modeling and simulation capabilities, range support, flight and ground instrumentation support, data analysis systems, and ground-based test facilities
- Actively participates in design reviews, Test Plan Working Groups (TPWG), and other test planning activities
- analysis.
- Responsible for implementing the flight and range safety criteria used by the 412 TW and RCC for weapons systems tested on the Edwards Range
- Identifies problems and provides advice and recommendations to the Chief of Test and Range Safety and 412 TW leadership concerning range safety
- Bears sole responsibility during real-time operations for the safety implications of unmanned vehicles and weapons on the Edwards Flight Test Range
- Evaluates the range safety system, both airborne and ground support, and conducts studies and advanced planning to identify deficiencies which must be corrected or modified to satisfy range safety requirements for a specific program or mission
Qualifications/Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship
- This position requires at least a SECRET level security clearance and may require the ability to obtain and retain a TOP SECRET security clearance with special access. This position may require some flying as a flight test engineer. This position, although performed in the general office environment, may require frequent CONUS and/or foreign travel away from the AFTC for periods of up to three weeks or more at time, depending on project requirements.
- The selectee must meet or be capable of achieving the APDP certification as designated on the position description within the defined grace period for that certification level after assignment. This position also requires the employee to engage in acquisition continuous learning activities achieving 80 Continuous Learning points every 24 months
- Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment approximately 10 days per year.
- Knowledge of advanced concepts, principles, and techniques of electronics and aerospace engineering
- Knowledge of combat aircraft/missiles flight controls, flying qualities, performance, propulsion and structures
- Knowledge of flight and laboratory air vehicle/missile test conduct, coordination and supervision, data analysis/evaluation and applicable flight test truth sources, modeling and simulation, technical report preparation, and administrative aspects of flight test programs
- Ability to research, analyze, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and procedures to a variety of situations and to recommend timely and economical solutions
