About the Role:
The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Maintenance Mechanic Leader (WL-4749-10) to work at the 412th Test Wing, 412th Civil Engineer Group, 412th Civil Engineer Squadron, Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning Element (412th CES/CEOIH) at Edwards Air Force Base.
In this position you will serve as the Maintenance Mechanic Work Leader who will lead trades and labor workers in accomplishing the work of the unit and train them in the nonsupervisory work of the occupation(s) involved for the Heating, Air Conditioning, Ventilation and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) Element. Incumbent performs and leads the installation, modification, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of HVAC/R resources necessary to perform operation and maintenance services tasks inclusive of all accessories and components of the primary, secondary, ancillary, auxiliary and associated systems for all Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration System. As the Maintenance Mechanic Leader your main duties will be to lead a team of three (3) or more trades and labor workers in accomplishing the work of the unit. Installs, maintains, repairs, and modifies Heating, Air Conditioning, Ventilation and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) and Environmental Management and Control Systems (EMCS) equipment, systems and support equipment including mechanical system controls and distribution lines.
The Work Leader assists the Supervisor in planning/assigning weekly/monthly basis the use of subordinates, facilities and materials. The Work Leader also helps to utilize safety and security practices following established rules and regulations to maintain a safe, clean and secure work environment. Furthermore, the Work Leader assists the Supervisor in all Safety and Compliance programs within the Element, to include Fall Protection, Lockout/Tagout, Hazardous Materials, Equipment and Computer Account management.

Typical 2025 salary range: $36.91 - $43.07 per hour (includes locality)

Major Duties
- Performs technical supervisory duties to coordinate the work of maintenance and construction personnel to effectively and efficiently accomplish the work of a team of personnel performing heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration duties
- Troubleshoots HVAC/R and EMCS systems with complex problems and extensive repairs requiring judgment to locate malfunctions
- Inspects, installs, tests, maintains, and repairs power boilers and associated auxiliary and pollution control equipment; and the construction and operation of a variety of large industrial and commercial refrigeration and A/C systems
- Works safely with the physical properties and hazards associated with the handling of various types of HVAC equipment
- Completes preventive maintenance and inspection techniques as applied to troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electrical components such as electric motors, disconnect switches, starters, contactors, solenoids, and magnetic switches
- Executes the principles and theories of air conditioning and refrigeration and properties of refrigerants; mechanical, electro-mechanical, and pneumatic principles

- Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical
- Shift work may be required
- The work will require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid state driver's license will be required for the position.
- Incumbent must maintain flight line driving certification.
- Emergency overtime may be required.
- The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- May be required to participate in base contingency exercises.
- Shift work may be required.
- May be required to train/guide lower-graded (or other trades) military/civilian employees.
- Must obtain and maintain a current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification.
- Position requires CFC/NCFC Certification (universal) as required by 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F., EPA.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures; and regulations, procedures, and policies related to records maintenance and documentation.
- Skill in dismantling, repairing, and reassembling pumps, impellers, compressors, chillers, receivers, and evaporators to include balancing, aligning, and maintaining turbines, pumps, generators, and ash shredding equipment and preheaters; troubleshooting complex problems on large projects; and applying prescribed test procedures.
- Skill in the use of hand tools, power tools, and a variety of test equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, blueprints, drawings, sketches, and specifications; and maintain difficult balances of a variety of refrigerant controls and complicated motor controls.
