The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time, Temporary, Historian Assistant (GS-0303-06) to work at the Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC), Air Force Test Center (AFTC), Headquarters AFTC Historian Office (AFTC/HO) at Edwards, AFB in Edwards, CA.

Temporary Appointment Statement:
• This is a temporary position NOT to exceed 28 September 2024.


This position has a typical 2024 salary range of $51,300 - $66,692 (includes locality).

Position specific skills and experience desired in a potential candidate:
- Effective communication with individuals and groups. Ability to communicate goals and interplay ideas and concepts, keeping meetings on subject and productive. Ability to research and draft heritage displays
- Proficient in preservation techniques and strategies for textual records, electronic records, or audiovisual materials.
- Understanding and familiarity with a wide variety of automated systems to assist with Digitizes textual records and media for accessioning.

Mission/Purpose:
In this position you will serve as Historian Assistant to the Center Historian in the administration of the U.S. Air Force Test Center archives and will create historical products and assist in archival maintenance pertaining to mission and special studies. Also serves as liaison with 412th wing's squadrons collecting historical documents.

Major Duties:
- Ability to utilize graphics software to produce displays.
- Ability to critically evaluate sources of information and assist in validating historical facts.
- Skill in fact-finding, problem analysis, problem resolutions, and development of action plans to solve problems.
- Basic knowledge of historical principles, concepts, research sources, methodology, and techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret specific procedural guidelines pertaining to major command history program, policies, and activities, which are directly applicable to the work.

Qualifications/Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Incumbent must be able to obtain/maintain a non-sensitive security clearance.
- Ability to work independently planning, scheduling, coordinating, carrying out, and monitoring the effectiveness of the operations of multiple security programs in attaining organizational operational and test mission activities.
- Ability to effectively manage and organize various program activities and tasks and be familiar with administrative requirements.
