The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Supervisory Air Traffic Control Specialist (Terminal) (NH-2152-04) to work at the 96 Test Wing, 96th Operations Group 96th Operations Support Squadron (96OSS) at Eglin AFB in Valparaiso, FL.

This position has a typical 2024 salary range of $122,198 - $186,854 (includes locality).

Position specific skills and experience desired in a potential candidate:
- Must have a minimum of five (7) years air traffic control experience and at least one (1) year watch supervisor/senior controller experience in like or better control tower facility.
- Must complete the required portion of the AFJQS-Supervisor and Task Certification Guide within 6 months of initial assignment to the Air Traffic Control Specialist Supervisor position.
- Must become facility rated and maintain proficiency/currency within 6 months of appointment as an Air Traffic Control Specialist Supervisor.

96TH TEST WING MISSION: We test and evaluate state-of-the-art weapon systems, provide quality installation, and mission support, and serve as responsible stewards of our resources to deliver war-winning capabilities.

In this position you will provide air traffic control (ATC) services to military and civilian aircraft operating in instrument flight rules (IFR) and visual flight rules (VFR) conditions as well as terminal ATC services within the delegated airspace according to current FAA, DoD, USAF, MAJCOM, and installation and local policy. You will operate ATC equipment, ensuring use will result in satisfactory usability status for control of aircraft. And directly supervise civilian air traffic controllers assigned duty in the control tower, ensuring all subordinates are both medically and operationally qualified to perform ATC duties.

Major Duties:
- Directs movement of aircraft in flight and on the ground as displayed on radar indicator, pilot reported, or observed visually from the control tower. Coordinates and issues ATC clearances and instructions. Initiates/relays and issues air traffic control clearances and instructions in facility of assignment for aircraft operating IFR and/or VFR, under normal and/or emergency flight conditions.
- Coordinates and issues ATC clearances and instructions. Initiates/relays and issues air traffic control clearances and instructions in facility of assignment for aircraft operating IFR and/or VFR, under normal and/or emergency flight conditions. Responsible to establish local guidance and ensure all other ATC employees are trained and qualified to perform like duties.
- Provides emergency assistance to aircraft; initiates communications search and rescue action on overdue aircraft and determines control measures necessary during an in-flight or ground emergency to minimize property damage or possible loss of life. Assists in actions during communication failure, building evacuation, or any other emergency that limits control capability.
- Operates communication and display equipment. Responsible for the overall operation and management of all control tower activities during their required work hours.
- Upon obtaining position and facility certification, recurring training is required to maintain proficiency on current air traffic control requirements, and to ensure continued proficiency in each certified operating position. Completes recurring proficiency examinations.
- Performs as an Air Traffic Control Watch Supervisor/Senior Controller (WS/SC). On a rotational basis, assumes duties as WS/SC. Responsible for the overall operations of the facility when acting as the WS/SC and maintains general situational awareness of air traffic. If necessary, limits or disapproves operations based on existing traffic congestion or complexity, staffing, weather, and individual controller training and experience.
- Exercises civilian personnel management responsibilities at least 25% of the time. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets, and adjusts short/long-term priorities. Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees.

Qualifications/Requirements

- Meet the education and/or experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for 2152 General Education and Training Series. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education or education is a basic requirement, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

- Must complete the required portion of the AFJQS-Supervisor and Task Certification Guide within 6 months of initial assignment to as an Air Traffic Control Specialist Supervisor.
- Must become facility rated and maintain proficiency/currency within 6 months of appointment as an Air Traffic Control Specialist Supervisor.
- Must possess current and valid FAA/ATC specialist certification and maintain same.
- ATC specialists are subject to TDY deployments to meet AF ATC operational/mission requirements. This position requires the employee to sign a mobility agreement under the provisions of the agency mobility program. Employee may be assigned to a dedicated mobility tasking position.
- Must meet physical requirements for immediate worldwide deployment, remote from adequate medical facilities, for extended TDY.
- This position may require employee to work under adverse environmental conditions.
- May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty, i.e., Saturdays, Sundays, Holidays, etc. May be required to work rotating shifts and overtime.
- May be required to respond to short notice recall supporting unscheduled emergency air traffic and/or contingencies/exercises to support the mission.
- Must meet and maintain medical standards necessary to perform ATC duties.
