The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Temporary Engineering Technician (GS-0802-04) to work at the 96th Test Wing at Eglin AFB in Valparaiso, FL.
NO 6-MONTH WAIT! Recently retired and/or retiring from MILITARY service ARE eligible for immediate appointment for AFTC positions. The 180-day waiting period has been waived for AFTC to hire recently retired and/or retiring service members.

Temp/Term Statement:

This position has a typical 2024 salary range of $35,373 - $45,982 (includes locality).

Position specific skills and experience desired in a potential candidate:
• Knowledge of basic engineering principles.
• Knowledge of practical engineering techniques.
• Ability to learn new engineering principles and to apply them studies and projects.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations.
Mission/Purpose:
This position, Engineering Technician, GS-0802-04 is established under the provisions of the Student Temporary Experience Program (STEP). The purpose of this position is to provide general assistance and support to the organization and to provide experience to the employee as long as he/she remains a student.
Major Duties:
• Assists higher grade engineers/technicians with projects and programs.
• Uses computers/computer software such as information management programs, computer aided design and drafting (CADD) programs, and project tracking programs.
• Applies practical engineering and scientific principles and performs routine analyses of standard data and other information using standard tables and formulas.
• Exchanges information with established points of contact.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• U.S. Citizenship Required
• Direct Deposit: All federal employees are required to have direct deposit.
• Males must be registered for Selective Service, see Legal and Regulatory Guide.
• This position is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program.
• Disclosure of Political Appointments.
• Category rating and selection procedures will be utilized.
• Security Clearance: must be able to obtain and maintain an appropriate level security clearance as a condition of employment.
• Limited practical knowledge of engineering methods, techniques, and practices (aerospace, mechanical, and/or electrical) to assist higher grade engineers/technicians in developing infrastructure projects, programs, and plans.
• Ability to perform a variety of engineering assignments in accordance with established methods.
• Ability to learn new engineering principles and to apply them to studies and projects.
• Ability to use computers/computer software to perform a variety of functions to facilitate project completion.
• Ability to recognize readily apparent errors when analyzing data.
