Chickens first took flight at Arnold AFB 50 years ago
This schematic drawing shows the general arrangement of the Bird Impact Range at Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee. The facility, commonly referred to as the “Chicken Gun,” was used to simulate in-flight bird strikes to aircraft canopies and other materials by launching chicken carcasses at test articles. The first shot from the Chicken Gun was fired 50 years ago. (U.S. Air Force photo)
