Base officials changed the name of the base newspaper back from the Desert Eagle to the Desert Wings with the publication of volume 59, number 47 of the Desert Wings. The Desert Eagle ceased publication with volume 4, number 21.

The newspaper on the base is an old tried and true tradition.  The first instance of an installation newspaper occurred from July through October 1944 when the Camp News was published.    From August 1944 through January 1946 the paper was titled the Murocket.  The Muroc Mirage followed that publication from July 1942 through September 1945.  Finally, the Desert Wing hit the streets in March 1950.
