The Grand Sierra Resort and Casino held its annual Beer and Chili festival on October 19th and 20th and the Nevada Air National Guard firefighters walked away winners.

Tech. Sgt David Morris and Senior Airman Bryce Fording took first place in the Firehouse Chili Challenge on October 20th competing in a chili contest against five other local fire departments. The competitors: Reno, Carson City, Sparks, Truckee Meadows, and Story County Fire Departments.

Nevada Air Guard’s entry into the contest (a recipe by Morris) was chosen as the People’s Choice winner meaning that people attending the festival voted that the Nevada Air National Guard Fire Department’s chili was the best of all the six fire departments.

They won $500.00 to donate to the charity of their choice--Honor Flight Nevada--which helps to bring military veterans to see the memorials in Washington D.C.

This is the second time that they have participated in this event and marks the second time that they walked away with the People’s Choice award.
