About the Role:

The 96th Test Squadron, in the Air Force Test Center (AFTC), is looking to hiring two (2) full-time senior computer scientist/ computer engineers, NH-0854/1550-03 positions to join the prestigious Long Range Weapon Kill Chain (LRWKC) program at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. This is your chance to work on the #1 priority program for the 96th Test Wing, a multi-year, high-visibility initiative shaping the future of advanced weapon systems and national defense.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as senior computer scientist/computer engineer to perform research and other professional work in the computer sciences/engineering and related scientific disciplines to support the 96th Test Support Squadron (96 TSSQ). Works independently or part of a team in the development and application of mathematical, statistical, and computational methods and techniques for the processing and analysis of scientific test data, using knowledge of operating system theory and computer system architecture.

We are seeking talented and innovative problem-solvers from the Computer Engineering/Scientist backgrounds to fill these critical roles. You will be involved in advancing the complete "Find, Fix, Track, Target, Engage, and Assess" kill chain, tackling complex challenges in a world-class test and evaluation environment.

Mssion: We test and evaluate state-of-the-art weapon systems and cyberspace capabilities, provide quality installation and mission support, and serve as responsible stewards of our resources to deliver war-winning capabilities. The 96th Range Group develops, operates, and maintains the Eglin Test and Training Complex by providing airborne and range software and system's testing, instrumentation, infrastructure, facilities, and technical expertise to support fielding of war winning capabilities. Vision: To be the most agile, responsive, and cost effective test and support organization in the DoW.. PURPOSE: Computer Engineer/Scientist, NH-0854/1550-03. This position is within the Advanced Test and Training Systems Flight in the 96 Test Systems Squadron and Long-Range Weapon (LRW) test infrastructure investments portfolio.

Typical 2026 salary range $89,508 - $138,537 Per Year (includes Locality)

Travel Requirements: up to 25% travel is possible

Desired Skills:

The Test Systems Squadron provides engineering support to enable the development of test capabilities and this position will perform computer engineering/scientist engineering duties to support the Long-Range Weapon Kill Chain portfolio of programs.

Position specific skills and experience desired in a potential candidate:

-Professional knowledge of a broad range of computer scientist/computer engineering and mathematical analysis techniques to process a variety of data to include aircraft telemetry, weapon telemetry, and time space position information (TSPI)

- Ability to organize, prioritize, analyze, interpret, and evaluate technical data, complex requirements, and prediction of results in the solution of theoretical or practical data processing problems

- Extensive knowledge of complex data formats, systems architecture, data analysis, software development and automated software testing

- The work requires the incumbent to adhere to security regulations and ensure classified material is controlled and secured at all times.

3+ years of Test Range experience, desired

2+ years of cross-functional team experience as a team member or leader desired.

1+ years of Acquisition experience and/or training desired

Major Duties:

- Overseeing the design, building and implementing effective testing strategies

- Understanding the three types of testing strategies which are known as black box, white box and gray box testing

- Able to create test requirement traceability matrix

- Overseeing the creations of test plans and test cases

- Capable of reviewing test scripts for completeness

- Able to focus on overseeing and evaluating software and application for bugs and issues

- Create and brief test status to management

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest
  • The work requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance as a condition of employment.
  • The work requires the incumbent to adhere to security regulations and ensure classified material is controlled and secured at all time
  • This is a designated Drug Testing Position
  • Computer Science or Computer Engineering BS Degree from an ABET accredited institution
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft. Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical
  • Professional knowledge of a broad range of computer scientist/computer engineering and mathematical analysis techniques to process a variety of data to include aircraft telemetry, weapon telemetry, and time space position information (TSPI)
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, analyze, interpret, and evaluate technical data, complex requirements, and prediction of results in the solution of theoretical or practical data processing problems
  • Extensive knowledge of complex data formats, systems architecture, data analysis and display concepts, and automated computational processes and methodology to respond to customer requirements with versatility and sound judgement
  • Ability to recognize and analyze problems, conduct research, summarize results, and provide appropriate recommendations and solutions to management
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours.
  • This position has been designated an acquisition position and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP). The employee must meet, or be capable of meeting Defense Acquisition Work Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements, which includes achieving a "Practitioner" certification in "Program Management" within given period.
  • Skill and ability to plan, organize, lead, and manage critical aspects of research and development for a variety of acquisition functions to coordinate various aspects of systems acquisition such as engineering, contracting, financial management, configuration management, and test and integration.
