WEBVTT 00:01.580 --> 00:03.636 Every airman is essential to mission 00:03.636 --> 00:07.039 success . I am Doctor Dakari Dojo 00:07.039 --> 00:09.340 Williamson . I am the director of 00:09.340 --> 00:11.340 curriculum and courseware for the 4 00:11.340 --> 00:13.562 12th Operations Group Training office , 00:13.609 --> 00:15.939 and um , I'm here on the testimmersion 00:15.939 --> 00:19.420 team . The test immersion course is a 3 00:19.420 --> 00:22.370 part course we focus on academics and 00:22.370 --> 00:24.540 introducing mission command , then we 00:24.540 --> 00:27.020 talk about why tests . So fundamentally 00:27.020 --> 00:29.242 for each individual why they're there , 00:29.379 --> 00:31.435 their roles and responsibilities and 00:31.435 --> 00:33.435 what they think they can contribute 00:33.435 --> 00:35.712 into kind of this overall test mission , 00:35.712 --> 00:38.139 their unit , etc . and then we provide 00:38.139 --> 00:40.459 a hands on , uh , experience that 00:40.459 --> 00:43.869 allows each individual to um . Uh , be 00:43.869 --> 00:47.229 a test pilot for a day or get to 00:47.229 --> 00:49.430 understand what the true nature of the 00:49.430 --> 00:51.900 test environment is through experience , 00:52.200 --> 00:54.089 uh , in a simulated environment . 00:57.330 --> 00:59.219 So the goal of our test immersion 00:59.219 --> 01:01.219 course is to help the the personnel 01:01.219 --> 01:03.052 that aren't doing test every day 01:03.052 --> 01:05.163 understand their purpose here and and 01:05.163 --> 01:07.497 what it is that they bring to the table , 01:07.497 --> 01:09.608 um , even when their job may not seem 01:09.608 --> 01:11.719 directly related to test , you know , 01:11.719 --> 01:13.719 if they understand what we're doing 01:13.719 --> 01:15.774 they can better understand how their 01:15.774 --> 01:17.830 job applies to the overall objective 01:17.830 --> 01:17.209 and mission of the 4-12 test wing . 01:19.029 --> 01:20.807 Test immersion came out when we 01:20.807 --> 01:23.029 essentially determined that our support 01:23.029 --> 01:25.140 personnel didn't quite understand why 01:25.140 --> 01:27.307 they were at Edwards . We send them to 01:27.307 --> 01:29.473 a base in the middle of the desert and 01:29.473 --> 01:29.470 just tell them like , yeah , this is a 01:29.470 --> 01:31.526 test base . They wear test patches , 01:31.526 --> 01:33.748 but they don't really know what test is 01:33.748 --> 01:35.970 or what it means to be a part of a test 01:35.970 --> 01:38.137 organization . So I would see the test 01:38.137 --> 01:40.303 immersion course growing in the future 01:40.303 --> 01:42.137 to essentially be similar to the 01:42.137 --> 01:44.137 courses that we see when we onboard 01:44.137 --> 01:46.248 personnel , you know , someone's been 01:46.248 --> 01:48.192 at Edwards for . You know , 3 to 6 01:48.192 --> 01:49.970 months , uh , they have a basic 01:49.970 --> 01:51.970 understanding of their job but they 01:51.970 --> 01:53.859 wanna understand like what is the 01:53.859 --> 01:55.914 overall job of the base and how does 01:55.914 --> 01:58.192 their job fit into the base's job , um , 01:58.192 --> 02:00.192 you know , their mission , the test 02:00.192 --> 02:02.470 wings mission , and how do those align . 02:02.470 --> 02:04.692 My favorite part of the course has been 02:04.692 --> 02:06.914 learning more about the mission command 02:06.914 --> 02:08.970 aspect and knowing how I can take my 02:08.970 --> 02:11.137 commander's intent and then frame what 02:11.137 --> 02:13.137 I am expecting for my team and then 02:13.137 --> 02:15.026 also just being able to relay the 02:15.026 --> 02:14.970 commander's intent to them in a way 02:14.970 --> 02:17.081 that helps them to execute their role 02:17.081 --> 02:19.192 and I've also just enjoyed getting to 02:19.192 --> 02:21.248 see the the practical side of things 02:21.248 --> 02:23.414 and getting those hands on experiences 02:23.414 --> 02:26.410 and exercises . I think for me the 02:26.410 --> 02:28.410 biggest concept that I grabbed from 02:28.410 --> 02:30.466 this was the shared understanding is 02:30.466 --> 02:32.632 that we have a shared understanding of 02:32.632 --> 02:36.330 what test is and why we test um we 02:36.330 --> 02:38.497 think tests and we think we're testing 02:38.497 --> 02:40.552 planes we're testing weapons we test 02:40.552 --> 02:42.608 more than just planes more than just 02:42.608 --> 02:44.774 weapons we test programs we test cyber 02:44.774 --> 02:47.289 capabilities um we play an important 02:47.289 --> 02:50.259 part in what test is . And it's brought 02:50.259 --> 02:52.600 in my scope of understanding and I'm 02:52.600 --> 02:54.767 able to bring that back to my squadron 02:54.767 --> 02:56.878 and my people and say this is what we 02:56.878 --> 02:58.933 do here at TES . We are an important 02:58.933 --> 03:00.830 part of test . I think we were 03:00.830 --> 03:03.163 successful in the test immersion course . 03:03.163 --> 03:05.219 We got a lot of good feedback . They 03:05.219 --> 03:06.997 talked about how they felt more 03:06.997 --> 03:09.052 incorporated and what test is , what 03:09.052 --> 03:11.108 part they actually play . We stopped 03:11.108 --> 03:13.052 using the J word just . I'm just a 03:13.052 --> 03:15.274 technician . I'm just a calm . I'm just 03:15.274 --> 03:17.386 an FSS , and we started moving into , 03:17.386 --> 03:19.552 hey , this is really cool to see these 03:19.552 --> 03:19.350 are the things we're testing and moving 03:19.350 --> 03:22.610 in and building a better tomorrow . So 03:22.610 --> 03:24.443 my vision for the future of test 03:24.443 --> 03:26.221 immersion is making it bigger , 03:26.330 --> 03:28.441 bringing more students in making this 03:28.441 --> 03:30.441 part of an immersion course that we 03:30.441 --> 03:32.441 incorporate into 6 months into your 03:32.441 --> 03:34.663 career once you kind of understand what 03:34.663 --> 03:36.830 we do here and what it is that we take 03:36.830 --> 03:38.997 part in that mission . And then you're 03:38.997 --> 03:38.869 ready for that next level . What do we 03:38.869 --> 03:41.479 really do as test ? I wanna see more 03:41.479 --> 03:43.257 activities really get different 03:43.257 --> 03:45.669 perspectives from different ops groups , 03:45.710 --> 03:48.149 um , jobs . What do they do on that 03:48.149 --> 03:50.316 front line that we can show our airmen 03:50.316 --> 03:52.429 and our civilians and our contractors 03:52.429 --> 03:54.485 and everybody who works on this base 03:54.485 --> 03:56.596 the importance of what they do , what 03:56.596 --> 03:58.596 they enable , and have a little fun 03:58.596 --> 03:58.429 along the way .
