January 20, 1959: 6510th Air Base Group Takes Control of Edwards Air Force Base

EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif --

Brigadier General Marcus F. Cooper relinquished his dual function as Commander, Air Force Flight Test Center, and Commander, Edwards AFB.  General Cooper retained command of the Flight Test Center, but command of the base itself passed to itself to the Commander of the 6510th Air Base Group. Col Frank H. Mears was the incumbent.

General Cooper was a member of the Institute of Aeronautical Sciences and the Air Force Association.  General Cooper's decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross, the American Campaign Medal, American Defense Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
