About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Supervisory General Engineer, NH-0801-04, to work at the 96th Test Wing, 96th Operations Group, 40th Flight Test Squadron, at Eglin AFB, FL.

 

In this position, you will supervise the Advanced Capabilities Flight at the 40th Flight Test Squadron. The flight is responsible for planning, executing, analyzing, and reporting on flight test of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) enabled aircraft and systems. The Advanced Capes Flight Chief will work side-by-side with military leadership to train and equip flight test engineers, data analysts, operators, and support personnel to test and evaluate weapon systems in support of US capabilities.

Location: Eglin AFB, FL

Typical 2025 salary range: $124,531 - 190,424 per year (includes locality)

Areas of Consideration (AOC): Department – wide (DoD)

Desired Skills:

- Two or more years of experience supervising government civilians with knowledge of appraisal system, talent management and retention, award package writing, employee records management, and ability to perform timekeeping and manage training desired

- Five or more years of experience in fight test to include test planning, safety approval, flight test execution, and technical reporting with particular emphasis on test project management desired.

- Formal flight test training such as test pilot school or test and evaluation certificate desired.

Major Duties:

- Supervise government civilians within the Advanced Capabilities Flight.

- Oversee supervisory administrative aspects such as time off, travel, talent management and retention.

- Act as hiring manager for new employees and oversee on-boarding.

- Organize, train, and equip team of test engineers, scientists, aircrew, logisticians, and support personnel to accomplish flight test mission sets.

- Provide technical subject matter expertise where applicable to solve issues that arise during flight test.

- Communicate program status to squadron and group leadership. Provide early indications of concerns before they manifest as issues.

- Provide technical continuity for military and civilian workforce.

Qualifications/Requirements:

1. A professional degree at the bachelor’s level from from a department that administers at least one engineering degree currently accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) is highly desired; or possess a bachelor’s degree in a related technical discipline such as mathematics, computer science, one of the physical sciences or engineering.

2. Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.

3. The work requires the employee to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.

4. This position has been designated as an acquisition position and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP). The employee must meet or be capable of achieving the APDP certification as designated on the position description within the defined grace period for that certification level after assignment.
