The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Explosive Safety Specialist (NH-0017-03) to work at the 412th Test Wing, Wing Staff Agencies (WSA), Weapons Safety Office, (412 TW/SEW) at Edwards Air Force Base in Edwards, CA.

This position has a typical 2024 salary range of $101,121 - $156,323 (includes locality).

Position specific skills and experience desired in a potential candidate:
- 2 years of flight test experience desired.
- 2 year of munitions/explosives handling experience desired.
- 2 years weapons loading experience desired.

Mission/Purpose:
The primary purpose of this position is: To manage a diverse weapons and explosives safety program involving diverse environmental, ground, aviation, construction, weapons, and explosives activities and provide advisory aircraft systems weapons and explosives safety services.

Major Duties:
- Plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates activities necessary to the overall management of a diverse weapons/explosive’s safety program.
- Reviews complex weapons and explosives safety plans/programs and develops and issues instructions and procedures establishing technical and administrative weapons and explosives safety requirements which frequently become official policy and may impact a wide range of agency explosives activities.
- Ensures and performs periodic inspections, evaluations, and surveys of facilities equipment, and operations; and identifies deficiencies in the program and variances to the standard using a comprehensive knowledge of regulations, standards, procedures, methods, and techniques to determine compliance with weapons and explosives safety regulations.
- Acts as a Weapons Safety representative to Test Safety Review Boards (SRB). Reviews weapon Safety analyses, operating instructions, and attend SRBs relating to aircraft store/weapons system and range activities where new or modified weapon testing or explosives are involved.

Qualifications/Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Obtain & maintain Security clearance (if applicable)
- Knowledge of established weapons and explosives safety principles, practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and current legislative issues as they relate to the military installation weapons and explosives safety program; the requirements, methods, and techniques of accident and mishap investigation, analysis, resolution of safety problems, and formal reporting procedures; and risk assessment methods and techniques for evaluation of weapons and explosives safety risks.
- Knowledge of basic explosives safety construction standard, methods, practices, techniques, materials, and equipment to determine compliance with regulations and standards.
- Skill in the interpretation of engineering drawings and specifications sufficient to identify hazardous conditions in proposed facilities.
- Skill in conducting mishap investigations; analyzing and evaluating hazardous conditions; preparing reports and recommendations; and addressing risk assessment methods and techniques for safety code compliance.
