The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Supervisory Firefighter, Assistant Chief of Operations (GS-0081-10) in CE FIRE DEPT to work at the 412th TW/OL AF Plant 42/CEXF at Edwards AFB in Palmdale, CA.

This position has a typical 2024 salary range of $76,788 - $99,821 (includes locality).

Mission/Purpose:
To ensure that the Fire Operations Flight provides fire Protection crash rescue services by ensuring sufficient material and equipment supplies, effectively and efficiently managed according to DoD, and Air Force standards, in order to meet mission requirements.

Major Duties:
• As an Assistant Chief of Operations on a 24-hour duty shift, participates in the administration and planning of a comprehensive fire prevention and firefighting and rescue program of a sufficient magnitude at the installation.
o Responsible for planning, developing, implementing, reviewing, and evaluating the program. Receives new regulations or procedures from the Fire Chief and disseminates information to subordinates who will assist in the carrying out of the program on a regular and recurring basis.
• Serves as the on-scene commander of a fire crash scene until relieved by the Fire Chief or Deputy Fire Chief.
o Determines the best course of action to minimize loss or damage from fires or explosions. Directs the placement of firefighting equipment and personnel to ensure maximum utilization in fire control or aircraft crash rescue operations.
• Performs supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
o Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management. Selects or recommends selection of candidates for vacancies, promotions, details, and reassignments in consideration of skills and qualifications, mission requirements, and EEO and diversity objectives.

Qualifications/Requirements:
• U.S. Citizenship
• Obtain & maintain Security clearance.
• This is a designated Drug Testing Position
• Certifications/Licensure:
o Fire Officer III (6 months to obtain)
o Fire Instructor II
o Fire Inspector II
o HAZMAT Incident Commander
o ICS 300/400
o Airport Fire Fighter
o Firefighter I, II
• Knowledge of the theory, principles, methods, techniques, and practices of firefighting and rescue operations.
• Knowledge of the operation of fire department communications equipment.
• Ability to operate and direct others in operating under stressful and dangerous conditions.
• Ability to formulate and effectively implement firefighting emergency response plans and to direct personnel in such operations.
